The Dad’s Club, the Lacrosse Team and the Hockey Team joined forces Saturday morning to host a great event to support the International Rescue Committee. We hosted approximately 75 children and provided a morning of fun and athletic events, healthy snacks, and fellowship.

Thank you very much for the strong turnout from our Hockey Club for this Service Event. Our Team was very well represented and we had enthusiastic participants. As you all know, Brophy is not just about classroom education: What distinguishes a Jesuit education is the emphasis on a call to view the world from the perspective of marginalized people, a perspective which develops what Father Pedro Arrupe, S.J., the former General of the Society of Jesus, called “men and women for others.”

There were plenty of smiles and much laughter to attest to the success of the event. Thanks to the Dad’s Club for hosting our delicious celebratory lunch at Honey Bear’s BBQ.

The IRC organizers told us that some of their kids were there without tennis shoes because the kids were wearing the only pair of shoes they owned. Dad’s Club members immediately started to strategize the best way for the Brophy community to meet this need. Don’t be surprised if this event leads us to participate in a shoe drive to continue our support of these kids.

Thanks to all who helped out with this event! For those of you who were unable to attend, we hope you can join the fun next year. We hope to host this same event next year, incorporating a few improvements along the way!

A well rounded education and love of hockey is just the beginning for Brophy Broncos. They put their faith in action serving the communities in need around them.
